The Challenge

Mechanical plant is one of the most common sources of structure-borne noise in commercial buildings. Chillers, air handling units, cooling towers, generators, pumps, and fans generate continuous vibration that transmits through their support structure and into the building fabric — often audible across multiple floors and at considerable distance from the source.

Rooftop plant presents particular challenges: the building structure acts as a sounding board, and lightweight roof slabs often have low stiffness at the frequencies generated by rotating machinery.

Solution

Mwendo specifies Sylomer® anti-vibration pads and AMC pipe clamps for HVAC and mechanical plant applications. The correct isolator is selected based on the equipment mass, operating speed, excitation frequency, and the structural stiffness of the supporting slab.

Solutions range from Sylomer® elastomer pads for lighter plant to heavy-duty mounts for large rotating machinery, with dedicated pipe isolation clamps for HVAC and hydraulic pipework throughout the building.
