Akustik Ventilator + Sylomer®
The Akustik Ventilator is an acoustic isolation device designed to decouple ceiling-mounted fans and lightweight suspended equipment from the building structure. Fans generate mid and high-frequency vibrations that — when transmitted through a rigid fixing — radiate as structure-borne noise throughout the building. The Sylomer® element interrupts this path at the point of attachment.
The Problem
- Ceiling fans, extract fans, and suspended HVAC equipment generate rotational vibration at blade-passing frequency and its harmonics
- These mid and high-frequency vibrations travel through the fixing rod or bracket directly into the ceiling slab or joist
- From the structure, vibration radiates as audible hum and buzz in the rooms above, below, and adjacent to the fan
- Rubber grommets and foam pads frequently used as a cheap fix compress over time and become ineffective
How It Works
- The Akustik Ventilator isolates the fan suspension rod from the structural fixing with a calibrated Sylomer® element
- Sylomer® microcellular polyurethane provides superior attenuation across the mid and high-frequency range compared to rubber or cork
- Flexible assembly requiring minimal installation space — retrofittable to existing fan installations without major disruption
- Compatible with 4mm and 5mm plate thickness; can be customised in shape, size, and material density for specific applications
Typical Applications
- Ceiling-mounted extract and supply fans in offices, schools, and retail spaces
- Suspended fan coil units and ventilation terminals
- Lightweight suspended HVAC equipment in noise-sensitive environments
- Residential ceiling fans above occupied bedrooms and living spaces
Specification
- Maximum load: 2.5 kg per mount
- Product code: 712184
- Compatible plate thickness: 4mm and 5mm
- Sylomer® microcellular polyurethane elastic element
- Customisable in shape, size, and Sylomer® density for specific applications
Material Advantages Over Alternatives
- Sylomer® delivers higher isolation efficiency than rubber at equivalent load — lower natural frequency for the same deflection
- Does not harden, creep, or lose isolation performance over time — unlike rubber grommets or cork pads
- Maintenance-free — no scheduled replacement required
Installation Notes
- The mount connects between the structural fixing point (ceiling anchor or rod) and the fan suspension bracket
- Flexible assembly allows installation in confined ceiling voids and plantroom spaces
- Suitable for both new-build installations during fit-out and retrofit to existing fan installations experiencing noise complaints
- No special tools required — standard fasteners and fixings throughout
When to Specify
- Any ceiling-mounted fan above or adjacent to a noise-sensitive occupied space
- Buildings where noise from mechanical services is subject to planning conditions or acoustic design targets
- Retrofit situations where fan noise complaints have been received and rigid fixing is the diagnosed cause
