The Challenge

Walls built directly against a structural shell transmit both airborne and structure-borne noise through the contact points. Even high-mass walls can underperform if flanking transmission paths — through the floor, ceiling, or adjacent structure — are left untreated.

Achieving the acoustic separation required for recording studios, broadcast facilities, cinemas, hotel party walls, and residential party walls requires full decoupling of the partition from the building structure.

Solution

AMC elastic wall ties and Sylomer® bearing strips decouple the partition leaf from the structural wall, floor, and ceiling. The result is an independent wall system that cannot transmit vibration through its fixings — addressing the flanking paths that mass alone cannot overcome.

Systems are specified for the required sound reduction index (Rw) and flanking attenuation based on the partition type, structural conditions, and acoustic targets.
