Recording Studio

A professional recording studio required the highest level of acoustic isolation achievable — a point-bearing floating floor using Acoustic Floor Blocks (AFB), isolating the studio from all structure-borne noise sources in the building.

Challenge

Recording studios sit at the extreme end of acoustic performance requirements. Even minor vibration — from traffic, HVAC systems, or footfall on adjacent floors — will appear in recordings. The studio needed to achieve a natural frequency well below 10 Hz to be effective against the full range of environmental excitation.

Solution

AFB point-bearing blocks from Getzner Werkstoffe were specified using FloorCalc®, calibrated to the exact floor load distribution. The system achieves a natural frequency below 8 Hz — providing attenuation across the full audio spectrum and well into the infrasonic range where HVAC and traffic energy concentrate.

• Studio noise floor within professional recording specification (NR-15)
• Effective isolation from all identified structure-borne noise sources
